Characters

Xaron

Xaron was the oldest prodigy from the last generation. Handsome, agile, strong, wise and talented at since a very young age, he was sent to the Temple of Light up on the Sacred City to continue his education as soon as he exhibited his great kills. Like Andor, the consort king, Xaron was born to the Taratoan dynasty, rulers of the Purple Mountains of the Eternal Sunrise, as close to the light as they are to the darkness. The Taratoan are kin to the reptilian flying dragon, and when they become one with their animal spirit they take the shape of the gargoyles; but tragedy struck before he could perform the ritual to become a Metamorph.

He has a strong silent and conspicuous character, he likes to be alone and he has a great sense of loyalty.  He was considered the strongest prodigy of his generation, destined for greatness, until Era Lamia from the Naga dynasty arrived at the Sacred City to join the training and the trials. Era was related to Darkhan, the prodigy of the previous generation that murdered the last king, so her family fell from the grace of the monarchs, but she fascinated Xaron, he wanted to get close to her but she wouldn’t allow it. Xaron and Era constantly had to battle each other for training purposes, so he would hold back, but he didn’t have to, she was equal in strength and speed. When Xaron was spying on her, he saw her materialize the great eagle that was her animal spirit, but he would be forced to take the great snake instead.

When their world fell in darkness, Xaron fought the last battle on the throne room, among the other prodigies and the Enlightened, when he discovered that Era was fighting against him. When all seemed lost, Samara, the Dragon Queen, opened the portal of Time and Space and he escaped to our world along with the other prodigies, including his baby cousin, prince Izar. As he was the oldest of the prodigies, he was entrusted with the protection of the prince.

To gain material body in our world, Xaron had to find a beast that was kin to his spirit, and so he found the Black Panther. Since then he watched over Izar, keeping him safe without revealing his presence. His companion is a black cat.  He became a strong and handsome man, and when Izar was taken by the government to conduct experiments on him, Xaron went on a quest to find all the other prodigies to rescue the prince and return to his world.

Prologue

The History

Millions of years ago, the collision of an asteroid against the surface of the planet brought humanity near to extinction. Their advanced world was destroyed and few survived hiding in the deepest caverns of the Earth but some of them found the entrance to “The Other Side”, a mythical world inside our world, between the Northern and the Southern Poles, spared from the devastation. It was a paradise where the sun never sets and was permanently blessed by the light of Gaya, their inner sun.

In this place of exuberant nature there were magnificent beasts and mighty dragons. People evolved in perfect harmony with their environment and new races appeared through time. Under the light of Gaya, the “Others” discovered that the laws of nature could be bent. While we evolved to develop technology, they developed something else. Among them, very special ones could materialize their animal spirit and become one with it; we call them Metamorphs but in ancient times when they used to come to our world to rule us, save us or destroy us, we knew them as mythical creatures and they were very familiar to us. We called them with different names in different times and places, but you might remember them as mermaids, gargoyles, centaurs, werewolf, vampires, angels and even gods.

There are no nights because Gaya is always floating and shining up on their sky. Gaya is something between mater and energy, and is the source of their power, fed by our sun through the ice of the North Pole. They believe it to be a living being of pure energy and consciousness that emanates a white light which causes bliss and has healing properties. The Others can live hundreds of years remaining young and healthy.

But there is also a vast land that extends beyond the reach of the light of Gaya. The Dark Lands begin where the light fades away and it gets darker at every step. The darkness itself is also alive and it takes many forms, but it manifests mostly as black smoke or a shapeless substance, very toxic and contagious, known as the “Black Dead”, which can only survive in the dark or as a parasite inside a living host. The Dark Lands are home to inexplicable horrors and the night terrors can also become real. People there are happy and peaceful in nature, but those who fall on darkness beyond redemption are sent to eternal exile into the Dark Lands.

In the Other Side, emotions become living things. Under the light, joy, love, and compassion, to mention some, become Spirits, but in darkness, hate, fear, rage and other destructive emotions become Demons.

The entrance to this world was lost, but the monarchs who live on a great palace up on their sky have a mystical Portal of Time and Space. The place was built on a floating island where the white feathered dragon nests; it was also known to us through legends and myths; we used to call it Olympus or Heaven but now we know it a the Sacred City. Several dynasties ruled the realm and we used to adored them as gods in places such as Egypt, Greece and Rome, but our story starts in the near future during the ruling of Samara, the Dragon Queen.

Samara belongs to the Lytean dynasty, which is kin to the spirit of white feathered dragon and when they become one with it they take the shape of the angels. It is said that over two thousand years ago, the son of Isis and Zeus founded the Lytean dynasty, and he was the one who closed the Portal of Time and Space that separates our worlds. Since then, no Metamorph has visited our world, but some of them were left behind.

Queen Amara was a vision, with her silver hair and her aquamarine eyes; her beauty had no match and just a glance of her could make any man mad with love. She came to power after the death of her father, King Zorus, bearer of the lightning bolt, who was fatally wounded by his apprentice, Darkhan, a prodigy from the Naga dynasty who plotted to kill him and take the throne hopping to force Amara to marrying him.

The Nagas inhabit and rule over the Eternal Sunset, a city-nation in the farthest lands where the light of Gaya starts to fade and ends on the borders with the Dark Lands. The Nagas are kin to the great snake, but when they become one with it they cannot reverse the transformation; this is why the Nagas no longer morph.

At different points in history, the Nagas tried to take over the throne by many means, because thousands of years ago, this dynasty ruled the Sacred City and were adored as gods. They have great tolerance to the darkness, but intense light weakens them. The Nagas tend to be more rational than emotional, which allowed them to master both forces of light and darkness; until the Lytean rulers forbade the use of dark forces and the relations with the Sacred City became less than friendly; however they remained members of the High Court and their ruling remained partially independent on the Eternal Sunset.

Seduced by creatures of darkness, Darkhan became mad and he obsessed about Amara, entertaining insane ideas about how to take her for himself; but being the strongest prodigy he was destined to take a life of celibacy in the temples of light. Darkhan plotted the assassination of the king who loved him like a son, but he never acted on it until the opportunity came and he could not refuse it. Darkhan wounded the king, but at the last moment, his best friend, another prodigy name Andor, defeated him.

Lord Andor from the Taratoan dynasty was a young and handsome prodigy, second in strength to Darkhan. They met at the trials and they became friends and study mates. Andor was the only prodigy that could face Darkhan in combat training, but Darkhan almost always was victorious; this increased he ego, and eventually opened the door to darkness.

The Taratoans are kin to the reptilian flying dragon that lives in the mountains of the same name over the land of the Eternal Sunrise. They are known for their explosive temper, their great strength and blind loyalty. They have served the Lyteans for generations reaching the highest rank in the royal armies, but none of them sat on the throne until Andor became consort king when he married princess Amara.

In spite of Andor’s efforts to save the king, the wounds inflicted by Darkhan on king Zorus’ chest proved to be fatal. The king lived long enough to condemn Darkhan to eternal exile far from the light, and give his daughter Amara into marriage. Soon after he died, and the young couple became monarchs of the Other Side.

Queen Amara and king Andor, ruled with justice and peace. It was a period of abundance and after the grief of loosing the king, the realm recover the joy. Amara took care of the issues of state while Andor became guardian of the borders and deliverer of justice. Amara conceived or adopted Vanya, (Some say she was Andor’s daughter from a previous union), and soon after a new generation of prodigies was presented to the monarchs and the high court, in a magnificent ceremony.

Among the prodigies there was Xaron, the oldest of all (about eight) and the most talented. He was a Taratoan and he was king Andor’s nephew; but a new prodigy became an equal, her name as Lamia, and she was heiress of the Naga dynasty. There was concern among the enlightened and the council of masters, when they accepted a Naga in the Sacred City, but queen Amara was determined to give the Nagas another opportunity and Lamia would not be judged by the doings of her uncle Darkhan. Lamia was about seven years old and she was the second oldest prodigy, and she became Xaron’s combat partner. Xaron was fascinated by Lamia and wanted to be friends with her, but she always kept to herself and an army of servants and instructors from the Eternal Sunset kept her in a tight schedule with no opportunity to socialize, she just wanted to be left alone and was focused in excelling on her training.

When the time to manifest their animal spirits came, Lamia was forced by tradition to choose the great snake, but Xaron witnessed her materializing an eagle when she thought that she was alone. Xaron finally gained her trust and he showed her how to summon the spirit and eventually after they became friends. Five years of training went by and at age thirteen, Xaron started noticing that his attraction to Lamia was of another nature and he had strong feeling for her; a childish infatuation but it was reciprocated, even if non of them acted on it.

That year, the realm was felled with joy, when queen Amara conceived a boy named prince Izar; in those days, princess Vanya was five and she had an unhealthy curiosity for the creatures of the oneiric realm (Us). The humans of the surface and the Others, can meet in the realm of the dreams, but for the Others is forbidden to make contact with us because they consider us dangerous; they are beings of light, but us, were live in a world of days and nights and we struggle between the light and the darkness within. Vanya use to be drawn to a boy from another place and a different time, his name was Vlad II, son of prince Mircea of Wallachia, born in the year 1400 A.D., she would see he cry in the dark but she would not interfere because the law forbade it; but the attraction was too powerful and every time she dreamed she was taken back to that very place and time, as if they were destined.

Even if our worlds are separated, they remain very interlinked with each other. What happens here has great repercussions there and in the near future, a global war will cause the use of chemical and biological weapons that will threaten the survival of our species. A virus used as a weapon will mutate after being exposed to chemicals also used in the war. Those affected by “Compound 66” will fall ill and will be believed dead, but soon after they will return to life, but degraded down to an animalistic state of the mind. The “Lazarus” will crave flesh and soon after will become cannibalistic. The infection will spread to mayor cities and the governments of the world will decide in favor of the use of nuclear weapons to eradicate the Lazarus; but the aftermath of the war will create a dark cloud that will cover much of the world, including the sky over the North Pole that feeds Gaya, bringing darkness to the Other Side.

As the light of Gaya will fade, the borders with the dark lands will be pushed further in the lands of light, and all the exiled will roam freely until Darkhan claims command over them and invades the Sacred City. Andor will command his armies to fight back, but he will also be contaminated with the “Black Dead” and will become a puppet of Darkhan and an enemy of those who he loves the most.

The battle will reach the throne room and knowing that without Andor she would be defeated, Amara will open the Portal of Time and Space and will bring her son and the prodigies to our world but under darkness her power diminished and the portal will become unstable. The prodigies will up in different places and some will even end up in different times. Amara will live her son on the loving care of a humble farmer woman who will loose her own son to a horrible disease and she will raise him as her own.

The prodigies will be too young to survive in our world of days and nights, so they will have to find animals kin to their spirit and feed from their life force in order to gain material bodies and live as humans. The years will pass and they will forget their real origin and their memories will fade away as forgotten dreams, except for Xaron, who will watch over his young nephew without revealing his presence, until government officials discover his incredible faculties and they take him to experiment on him and try to find a cure for Compound 66.

No one knows the extent of Izar’s power, but Xaron knows that if Izar is not exposed to the light long enough, a dark version of him could mean the end of both worlds. Xaron will begin a quest to find all the other prodigies and will try to train them and attempt to rescue their prince.

In a world, between the northern and the southern poles, a different kind of human has evolved under the light that shines all day long. Among them they’re those who can materialize their animal spirit and merge with them. In ancient times they used to come to our world and we adored them as gods, until two thousand years ago when the bridge between the two worlds closed. In the near future, a nuclear war will cover the sky with a radioactive cloud and will bring darkness to their realm. Creatures that linger in darkness will take over. To save the young prodigies (including her new born), Samara, the Dragon Queen, will open the portal of time and space and will help them escape to our world, hoping that when they grow up they will return to save them.

Samara

The Dragon Queen:

Amara was a creature like no other; her indescribable beauty became so legendary that she was adored as the goddess. Daughter of Zorus II, the Dragon King, she was born to the ruling Lytean dynasty, kin to the white-feathered dragon and when she transforms she takes the shape of an angel. Before her birth, messengers from both light and darkness visited her mother in dreams, offering their blessings and subjugation. The Angel of Light offered strength and health, but the Angel of Darkness offered breathtaking beauty. Fearing that by refusing the gift of the Angel of darkness her unborn daughter would suffer some kind of deformity, the queen mother accepted both presents, and so, the most beautiful girl was born, but when she came to age, her beauty became a curse so powerful that made her the object of a desire so uncontrollable that could drive any man to insanity. For this reason her father sent her to the island of the Mirandas, where no men were allowed.

The effect that Samara had over two of the prodigies of her generation decided the faith of the realm. Lord Andor from Taratoa was probably the only man immune to Samara’s beauty, he was already promised to a woman of his land, and he saw her as an equal even if she was destined to be his queen; but Darkhan, from the Naga bloodline became so obsessed with her that would do anything to have her. Darkhan became addicted to the feeling of bliss caused by her presence; but when he knew that he was destined to never have her, he decided to take the throne by killing the king and force her into marriage. Fortunately, Andor defeated Darkhan by using the lightning bolt of the king against Darkhan, but the king was fatally wounded.

Upon the death of her father and fearing that her curse would cause more harm to her loved ones, Samara went to exile, hiding her beauty and roaming the nations of the realm in secrecy, but Andor went after her, to protect her and show her that without her the nobles would fight for the throne. They lived amazing adventures through their journey and they fell in love. Eventually they got married, and Samara adopted Vanya, the daughter that Andor had with his previous union. Her ruling brought peace and prosperity to the realm and few years later, Samara gave birth to prince Izar, who was just a baby when the darkness took over and the Exiled invaded the realm. To protect the future, she was forced to open the portal of time and space, which has been locked for millenniums and she helped the young prodigies to escape to our world, her own son among them. She left her baby on he hands of a humble woman for her to raise him, hoping that one day he would grow up strong and return to save them. She returned to the Other Side and there she became slave to Darkhan who finally got what he always wanted.

Izar

Izar was the newborn prince, son of King Andor of Taratoa and Samara of Lytea, the Dragon Queen. He was destined to rule the realm of the Other Side but when he was just a baby, the darkness took over, and creatures that linger in it were set free to take and destroy. The Exiled commanded by Darkhan invaded the Sacred City, and his father joined them because he was infected with the Black Death that made him a puppet of Darkhan. To protect him, his beautiful mother opened the Portal of Time and Space that remained closed for millenniums and she took him into our world to be raised by a humble woman who had just lost her son to the chemical weapons used in the third world war.

His adopted mother tried to raise him as a normal child even if his hair was silver. When he asked why they didn’t look alike, she used to tell him stories about how an angel brought him to her life and that he was the son that came from of her heart and not her belly. She was also sick from the same chemicals that killed her new born, but being close to him temporarily healed her. Izar also healed the land were he walked, and his farm was the only one that produced healthy food.

Izar inherited the grace of the Lytean dynasty and the strength of the Taratoan, but in a world of days and night, he had the capacity to incline toward either light or darkness alike. The great power he had within could be use to save the world or destroy it; for this reason his older cousin Xaron, watched over him and kept him close to the light during the nights and watched over him for years.

Izar grew up to become a handsome teen with a noble heart; he was innocent and loving, but he was unprepared to face the dangers and the injustices of the world. When he turned sixteen, government officials discovered that he was special and they took him to conduct inhuman experiments on him. Izar was brutalized so this would trigger his amazing powers. Some wanted to use him to find the cure to the Black Death with an antidote to Compound 66, but other wanted to weaponries him.

In the darkness, Izar materialized a small demon and he became friendly with it. The demon didn’t appear to be evil but it was playfully mischievous always trying to make Izar do wicked things. The demon became his best friend on his lonely existence inside the military facility were he was locked. They used to speak for hours, but people thought he was imagining things. The seemingly harmless demon would at times become a terrifying demonic force but it would always be in favor of Izar, trying to seduce him to command the forces of darkness.

The prodigies that escaped the invasion of the Fallen, were scattered across the world; some didn’t eve “landed” in the same time that he did, but his cousin Xaron went on a quest to find them all and to try rescuing him. They believe that Izar has the key to the Portal of Time and Space, but the don’t know that Izar is actually the key itself. Izar will eventually master his great power and he will discover that singlehanded he can change or destroy the world.
